September 2011 - New Ditch Witch JT2020M1 Delivering Fibre to the Rural Schools!

In response to the national rollout of ‘Fibre to the People’ Ditch Witch New Zealand has this month delivered a new JT2020M1 directional drill to Gary Clarke Contracting Ltd based from Bulls in the Lower North Island.

Gary Clarke Contracting Ltd is owned and operated by Gary Clarke who has over 33 years’ experience in the installation and connection of Fibre Optic cabling throughout New Zealand. Gary also owns a Ditch Witch HT185 plow and earth saw and is a partner in Universal Underground Ltd (which also operates Ditch Witch machines) however given the proposed increase in work he saw an opportunity to add value to his business with the purchase of the JT2020M1 directional drill.

Although already a Ditch Witch owner Gary went to the market in search of a machine to best suit his needs. Gary notes ‘Although I had experience with the previous Ditch Witch dealer I went to the market to see what new technology and systems where available.  In doing so I made contact with DWNZ and spoke to General Manager John Grant, with his extensive history with the Ditch Witch product John was able to assess my work and tailor made a package to suit my needs’.

That package was a JT2020M1 Directional Drill, with its compact footprint and powerful 85hp Tier III Cummins engine Gary recognised the ease in which he could utilise the 120mts of on-board rods. Adding to the ease of this process is the powerful 20,000lb of pullback force complemented by a carriage speed of 140fpm, this combined with a rotation speed of 225rpm means the JT2020M1 can handle not only the fiddly little jobs but also the bigger more difficult jobs with ease.

DWNZ General Manager, John Grant comments that the JT2020M1 is an extremely versatile machine packed with features designed to enhance the operator’s experience. Features such as a fully automated rod loading system and Cruise Control mean the operator can focus on the tasks at hand, not only this but the speed and ease of which these systems operate allow for unmatched production, or as the operators say ‘metres in the ground’.

As a contractor Gary knows the importance of After Sales back-up, ‘in making the purchase of the JT2020M1 I looked at DWNZ and the support they could offer. To operate my business successfully I need prompt back-up and experienced support I can rely on.  As a specialist Underground Equipment Supplier DWNZ carry a huge range of parts not only for the drill, but Downhole tools and mud products also. Service is provided by a local Service Centre who has the required tools and information at his fingertips, this combined with the experience of DWNZ staff put me at ease in my decision to purchase the Ditch Witch machine’.

DWNZ also recognise the value in customer support and carried out comprehensive onsite commissioning and training on the machine, this training saw Gary’s staff become fully conversant with all aspects of the process including drilling, locating and mud systems. ‘John came down and spent time with us pointing out the features of the JT2020M1 and best practises in its operation, this time was invaluable in ensuring we get the best out of the machine. All in all the whole process from quoting to sale has been informative and highly beneficial to my overall business’ says Gary.
